In this video, I’d like to share with you the 10 most important Google rankings factors every website should focus on in 2017.
There are sites that consistently rank first through the years like Forbes.com and Entrepreneur.com. But there are over 200 factors that Google considers when ranking a website, and it’s not realistic to meet every one of them. So where should you pour your marketing resources?
Companies should focus their efforts on the ranking factors that have the biggest impact and in this video, I’ll tell you which ones those are.
#1 PAGE AUTHORITY
Page authority refers to the credibility of a website in Google’s eyes and is one of the most important factors for gaining high ranks. And the higher the quantity and quality of inbound links pointing to your site, the more authority it has. These especially include .gov and .edu links since Google sees them as some of the most credible sources. But avoid the quick & easy route of buying links.
#2 LINK RELEVANCY
It’s important that this is not about getting the most inbound links, but getting as many quality and relevant links as possible to point to your site. Try and get links from websites with higher authority than yours that publish similar content on the same topics as you do.
#3 CONTENT LENGTH
Publishing consistent new content is one of the most important ranking factors, but 93% of business to business marketers use content marketing, so how do you stand above all the noise? Focus on creating long form content that is ideally over 2,000 words in length. In a study done by SERP IQ, long form content consistently ranks better on Google.
#4 CONTENT THINNESS
‘Thin’ content refers to any content that adds little to no value to a related search. Google’s Panda and Penguin updates sought to identify sites stuffed with keywords and sites that featured duplicate content to rank higher and penalize them. Instead, post original content and remove or “no index” pages with thin or duplicate content.
This information should give you a great start on where to focus your marketing resources. Be sure to watch Part 2 of this series for the final 6 most important ranking factors to focus on in 2017.
